Hertel Bowl

Description

The Hertel Bowl is part of the upper slope of the Fall Creek Valley. It is one of several great bowls carved over the millennia by the rushing waters of Fall Creek. Hertel Bowl is high above fall creek, and is therefore the most ancient. The Hertel Bowl is currently a goldenrod meadow, growing on land previously used as a hay meadow.

On Hertel Bowl Vegetation and Geology

Location

The Hertel Bowl is in Forest home and is an easy walk from campus. Follow Forest Home Drive eastward past the first bridge. Near the intersection with Pleasant Grove Road, there is a pedestrian path that leads up to the hill to Warren Road. Continue across Warren Road to Crest Land. By car, take Forest Home Drive to Warren Road, then take the second right turn, which is Crest Lane. At one end off Crest Lane there is space for one or two vehicles.

The Hertel Bowl was given to Cornell in 1996 by Anne and Eugene Erickson and Marjorie and Peter Loucks.
