Summer Drop-in Tours

General Information Guided “drop-in” tours of the Botanical Garden and F.R. Newman Arboretum take place all summer long. Tours are open to the general public and are led by trained volunteer Garden Guides. All tours last approximately one hour. See below for tour descriptions and dates. • Suggested donation is $5 per person per tour. • Pre-registration is not required. • Please dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. • Some climbing of slopes or stairs may be required. Botanical Garden Highlight Tours Offered every Wednesday and Saturday at 12 noon June 14 through September 2, 2006 Take a guided tour through Cornell University’s stunning botanical gardens and enjoy a lush profusion of annuals and perennials. Dedicated to education, research and community enjoyment, the gardens interpret and illustrate the many connections between plants and people. Visit over a dozen specialty gardens including the Robison Herb Garden, Martha Young Flower Garden, Bowers Rhododendron Collection, Mullestein Winter Garden, Pounder Heritage Vegetable Garden, various groundcover collections, and the Class of ’53 Patio Container Display, which features unusual tropical plants and tender perennials. Throughout the growing season there is always something in bloom, so no two tours are exactly the same. Meet outside Plantations’ Garden Gift Shop, located at 1 Plantations Road on the Cornell University Campus. Arboretum Highlight Tours Offered on alternate Saturdays at 10 a.m. June 24 through September 2, 2006 Visit the tree and shrub collections of Cornell University in the F.R. Newman Arboretum, an idyllic, 200-acre park-like setting featuring ponds, woodlands, meadows and scenic overlooks. These guided tours will introduce you to numerous woody and herbaceous plantings, including Baird Meadow, Zucker Shrub Sampler, Native Maple Collection, Treman Woodland Walk, Jennings Crabapple Collection, portions of the Urban Tree Collection, and more. Enter the arboretum via Caldwell Road (off route 366) and meet at the Houston Pond boardwalk near the center of the arboretum.
