Tribute Tree Program at Cornell Plantations

You can remember someone or honor a special occasion with a gift to name a tree. With a gift of $10,000, Plantations will name one of the trees in our collection after individuals or to note an occasion. We create a special tag with naming language and then maintain that tree forever.

All tribute trees are located in the 125-acre F.R. Newman Arboretum. At Cornell Plantations, trees are collected, planted and maintained with a purpose. Our collections policy (Curatorial Guidelines for the Cultivated Collections of Cornell Plantations) organizes the plants by both taxonomic classification (such as Quercus, Acer, Malus) and also by human use. The goal is to create as diverse as possible a collection overall, and as diverse as possible a collection within specialties. Specialties at Plantations include oaks, maples, urban trees, conifers, walnuts and chestnuts and flowering crabapples.

Your gift to name a tree not only remembers your loved one or your special occasion, but also supports Plantations on-going mission. In supporting our trees, you support research into their diversity and adaptation, characteristics and color, economic value, hybridization and selection, and environmental requirements-important research for students and faculty, for years to come.
