Annual Plantings

Each year the Plantations incorporates hundreds of annual flowers in its plantings. These flowers are the living gifts in memory, or honor, or a friend or family member. They are recognized on the annual memorial roll at the entrance to the Lewis Headquarters Building.

Gift Level: gifts of any size

Tree

This gift, frequently given in memory of an individual, qualifies a donor for Cornell's Tower Club.

Gift level: $5,000
(Please note a few exceptional specimens remain unnamed. Endowing one would require a gift of greater magnitude.)

Internships

Plantations is the classroom and laboratory for thousands of students over the course of the academic year. The best way to interest a student in horticultural activities is through an internship. Student interns work in the gardens, education program, greenhouse, and natural areas.

Gift level: $25,000 for one semester per year

Collections

The Clement Bowers Rhododendron Collection, one of the most comprehensive collections in the United States, needs a comprehensive interpretation program. Emphasis would be on the role of plant breeding in the development of new varieties.

Gift level: $20,000

Natural Areas

Gifts of any size contribute to the preservation of over 3,000 acres of unique natural areas in the Cayuga Lake Basin: old growth forests, wildflower meadows, scenic gorges are just some of the sites cared for by the Plantations.

Gift level: Any size

Lectures

Ten public lectures are offered annually at the Plantations on subjects ranging from integrated pest management to new and unusual shade trees. Only one of the lectures bear the names of Plantations supporters.

Gift level
A single lecture for one year: $2,000
Endowing a lectureship: $60,000

Workshops

Each year Plantations offers workshops in four major areas: natural history, landscape design, botanical arts and horticulture. Public interest in these areas is high but the modest tuition that is charged barely covers the cost of the instructor. A gift in this area would ensure the ability of Plantations staff to teach and instruct an ever growing audience.

Gift level
Naming a single workshop: $5,000
Endowing a workshop area: $75,000

Other Naming Opportunities

Plantations is seeking endowment support for key staff positions, a limited number of horticultural collections, and for the development of portions of the Plantations Path. We invite your inquiries.
